Rebecca Apricot Jacket

Project Specs
Yarn: GGH Java in Pink (3)
Pattern: Rebecca 27 Pattern #25
Gauge: 20 sts/4 inches on size US8 needles
Pattern Errata: Where do I begin?? There are so many things wrong with this pattern. This chart helps explain some of it:

I borrowed this from Diana becuase it helped me out so much with my problems.
There is also an interesting situation with the "edge stitch" terminology. Maybe it is just because I'm still a pattern reading newbie, but the pattern says make edge stitch, K1, P2. In my mind, that means K1 is the edge stitch. But in reality, you must K1, K1, P2. That goes for all the pieces in order to make the pattern sections symetrical on every panel. One other thing involved the length of the panels knit up off the fronts to make the "neck band." The pattern says to continue on for 8 cm, but I ended up doing more like 12 cm to make them actually connect in the back without pulling.

I am so thrilled with how this sweater turned out. Mind you, this is also my very first finished sweater EVER! I really can't believe it turned out so well. The seaming went fabulously. I used mattress stitch to join everything together. Seaming was not so bad as I thought it might be. It's actually quite a fun process to see everything come together so perfectly. Each stitch lines up exactly where it's supposed to go and turns into a sweater!

Pretty Ribbing

I'm going for the Eileen pose here. Think I got it?

Please ignore the growing fro. My hair looked perfect when I left the house this morning. However, it has not been hotter in Chicago than today in six years. It is 95 (but more like 105 with the heat index). Ay carumba. I'm camping in the A/C today, no question about that!

As far as the buttons go, I can't decide if I want to make the button holes smaller or just get bigger buttons. Time will tell if I can even find other buttons I like. I was precariously balanced while taking these pictures so my buttons wouldn't pop open. Oops. The button holes are done in a crochet chain stitch, which I also used all around the open sides of the cardigan to finish it off nicely. It looks really fabulous and makes a nice firm edge that doesn't lay funny.

I really couldn't be happier for my first finished sweater. The fit is perfect, knitting with the Java was such a wonderful experience. Even though I spent half my knitting time frogging this beauty until I figured out what I was doing, it was well worth it. I am actually excited for cold weather! Now I can devote more of my time to Lucky! I started working more on her this morning...but am also thinking about starting up an Orangina. 'Tis the season, plus it looks like a pretty quick knit for everyone. And it will be fun to knit in the round, which I have not done yet. Plus, no sleeves!

Check out the Slideshow for the process in pics.
