The Tragedies of a Knitter

I've been plugging away faithfully on some socks for my husband. I like them a lot, the color is very manly and the yarn is working up really well. The coloring is really cool and the pattern is just interesting enough to keep my attention while allowing for extended viewing of Arrested Development (possibly one of the funniest shows I've ever seen in my life).

All was going well with the socks. I've turned the heal on the first sock and no blaring mistakes are apparent as of yet. So I decide they would be a good travel project. But alas, purse + books + bamboo DPNs =

In a word? Disaster!

This is my first brush with a broken needle. I'm not only sad, but also annoyed. This was a pack that came with 4 DPNs rather that 5. So I can't even work with only 4, because now I'm down to 3. My LYS just closed, meaning I can't walk over and buy myself another set of needles and be about my business. It will be an event to go find some more. Lesson learned, never put a sock-in-progress in the bag with a text book ever again. Ever!!

Of fudge!! That is so annoying. The sock looks great though despite being so close to such a tragedy.

Argh! That is horrible. The socks look awesome, though...v. manly.

ack! that happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. i broke TWO DPNs in a set of five. luckily, i had brought an extra set, but it was very disconcerting. i had my sock on four of the needles, and the fifth broke while in my carry-on for the airplane. i replaced the broken needle with one from my extra set, and then i promptly broke another another needle from the original set! ARGH!

Something similar made me a two-circs lifer. It's more fiddly, but somehow seems more indestructable too. that sock is totally gorgeous!!

I agree - arrested development is one of the BEST. Shows. Ever. The series finale is one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen.

Yikes! And the socks are so handsome, too. Can you put them on a holder until more dpns can be secured?

I second the 2-circ solution for traveling / commuter socks. Best of luck!
